Our local newspaper had an article this morning documenting the weight loss success of Wendy and Marty Becker. It is an inspiring story for anyone trying to lose weight.
However, it wasn't easy. Despite a high level of motivation, an expensive commercial weight loss plan, a vegetarian diet, and exercise; they both had hit a plateau. After losing about 50 pounds, it seemed they could not lose any more. Once they added one more ingredient to their plan they again began losing weight. This final "secret" was buried in the middle of the article in a paragraph on page 2. They became vegan.
Wendy was quoted, "That (stopping all dairy products) just gave us the last kick we needed".
Studies have shown that vegans are only one ninth as likely to be overweight or obese as those that eat meat. As people become more aware that a vegan diet is the most effective and healthy way to lose weight, the vegan bandwagon will start rolling even faster.
